A WORLD IN MOTION
by Paul Exstrom
Introduction Your Mississippi Valley Section has been active in the A WORLD IN MOTION, an SAE Foundation Program. This is a physical science curriculum supplement for grades 4, 5 and 6 created for SAE by engineers, educators and business leaders to respond to an established need to promote science literary for all people and to help ensure North America industry will have a satisfactory number ot quality engineers in the future.
Several Kits with supplementary curriculum materials were distributed at no cost to interested schools and individual teachers in our area. The materials included instructions for conducting "experiments" to be performed by the students. The activities were designed to engage the children to use materials to create and conduct the experiments. These efforts extend over a period of six weeks for each grade. Materials used are rather simple items, but required time and effort to gather.
Engineers were encouraged to attend the sessions to aid in the activities and serve as a role model.
The MVS Governing Board has approved a plan to offer a $1000 award to the School and Teacher who have demonstrated significant use of SAE program A WORLD IN MOTION in their classroom this school year.
We expect to learn of the schools which are making good use of the program and improve the curriculum for future use.
